Anneke Shuster’s career in the mental health field began twenty-three years ago, she has spent the last six years working as a psychotherapist. As the daughter of a single immigrant mother, and the granddaughter of European World War Two survivors her life experiences led her to choosing a career in service and health.

Anneke feels privileged and honored to have walked beside diverse groups of individuals while working as refugee housing locator, homelessness housing coordinator, drug court liaison, and tobacco cessation coach. In her work she asks “how can we use our bodies to heal our minds, and minds to heal our bodies?”

Anneke combines her lived experience with childhood domestic violence and generational trauma to teach others, we don’t need to live in shame or stay silent because of what happened to us. She believes the therapy space can be creative, collaborative, and trauma informed, to foster exploration, expansion, and empathy.

Anneke is EMDR (EMDRIA) trained, and has been practicing EMDR to treat comorbid medical issues, sexual trauma and pain, childhood trauma and mood disorders since 2021. She is experienced in treating women living with chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and Functional Neurological Disorder. Anneke currently sees couples and individuals. Her style is informed by Existential Therapy, Somatic Therapy, DBT, CBT and her knowledge of social and systemic trauma.

Anneke is also trained in Trauma Informed Care Models, Motivational Interviewing, EFT or Emotion Focused Therapy, and DBT. Her career goals including becoming a domestic violence advocate, and integrating nature and equine based therapy into her work. She is a rescue dog mom, human rights advocate, and an avid outdoor lover.
